Perhaps his year of faculty development leave in 2006 will allow a
more positive atmosphere to develop upon his return to UNO in spring
2007. Andrzej's interaction with undergraduate math majors, through
the Math Club, is so extensive that this may be the key to finding a
solution to this serious problem. One specific suggestion is for
Andrzej to encourage Math majors to give talks at the annual spring
meeting of the Nebraska/South Dakota section of the MAA, and then to
help them prepare these talks. Such activities are becoming quite
popular and more common in the department. For Andrzej to work on
specific projects with individual students would be a big
contribution. This is just one possible example for Andrzej to
consider. Many other similar possibilities could be developed if he
has the interest to do so.
