After Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes in 1685, many Protestant Huguenot families fled France to escape persecution by the Catholic authorities. Many sought refuge in Germany, Holland, and England. Hundreds eventually settled in the English colonies in America.
Abraham Soblet and Susanne Briant (of Sedan, France) immigrated to Manakintown, Virginia, in 1700 with other French Huguenots.
Two of their sons, Pierre Louis Soblet and Jacques Soblet, had many descendants, and their daughter, Anne Soblet, married Pierre Chastain <http://www.kopower.com/~jimchstn/pierreb.htm> and also had many descendants.
Today, most Sublett / Sublette families in America are descendants of Abraham Soblet's sons Pierre Louis and Jacques Soblet.
